Basic functions of the audio amplifier
the audio amplifier shall include a front-end amplifier and a rear-end amplifier, or a combined amplifier. In order to connect and operate with other equipment in the system, they shall have some basic functions, such as power switch and volume control. In order not to affect our experimental results and prolong the service life of the experimental equipment, balance adjustment, input signal selection, recording output selection, treble and bass adjustment, etc. At present, there are two tendencies for the setting of various control functions. One is to attract consumers with a variety of functions, but it is not practical, and it is not good for sound quality. The other is to cancel the tone control, which is almost impossible. Although it is good for sound quality in theory, it is often inconvenient for practical use. It can be seen that the basic functions are still needed. Now, its use and operation are described
power on/off: controls whether the power supply of the amplifier is on or off. After most amplifiers are powered on, the relay can turn on the loudspeaker only after a few seconds, so as to avoid the noise generated by the pulse during startup. During the operation of the front and rear stage split amplifiers, the front stage shall be opened first and then the rear stage shall be opened, and the rear stage shall be closed first and then the front stage shall be closed for shutdown
input selector: also known as source or function or input, it usually includes phono, CD, tape, tuner, aux and other sound source equipment, as well as video equipment about Lubrizol Life Science (video). When the sound source equipment is correctly connected with the signal input socket on the back of the amplifier, use this button to select the sound source equipment for playback
record output selection (record or record selector): this selection switch can play another sound source without mutual interference when recording a sound source with a small amount of wear. The selection content is usually the same as the input selection
volume: also known as level control, it is used to control the signal to make the output volume suitable for listening. There are two control forms: smooth change and step change. Most of the volume controls are coaxially controlled by a knob on the left and right channels at the same time. There are also coaxially controlled forms that can independently control the volume of the two channels, eliminating the need for balance adjustment
balance: usually it should be placed in the middle position. It is used when the volume of the left and right channels is unbalanced or the volume of a certain channel needs to be increased or decreased
treble bass adjustment: it can be used to compensate the proportion of treble or bass in the playback sound. Generally, it is placed in the middle position to ensure the flatness of frequency response
direct: also known as tone defeat, it is used to prevent the signal from being affected by the tone control circuit and ensure (3) turn off the switch with flat frequency response after the test
pre out and main in: it is only set in the combined amplifier, and usually connected with a special plug. When the plug is unplugged, the pre amplification part and the post amplification part are separated and can be used independently. Other signal processing equipment can also be inserted between the two pairs of sockets, such as the frequency equalizer shown in the figure
